The Ascended King is a collection of biblical studies and Sunday School lessons on our Lord’s ascension and its implications for all of life.  You’ll also find a range of resources, readings, lecture notes, and other materials on Luke-Acts, eschatology, and the structural analysis of Scripture.

Roy Alden Atwood is the president of Reformed Evangelical Seminary (revseminary.com) and heads the Nicea Consulting Group (niceagroup.com).

He has served churches in various roles in the USA, Africa, and Europe for more than 40 years. He has taught and preached at several evangelical churches in eastern Albania since 2015. He was a Teaching Elder at Trinity Reformed Church, Moscow, Idaho (2005-2015), a Teaching Elder at Christ Church, Moscow, ID (1994-2002), the Chair of the CRCNA Campus Ministry to Washington State University Oversight Committee, Christian Reformed Church (1983-1988), a Deacon at Calvin Christian Reformed Church, Spokane, WA (1982-1984), and a Deacon at First Christian Reformed Church, Iowa City, IA (1978-1981).

During his 40+ year academic career, he has served as a university professor, administrator, accreditation commissioner, and educational consultant. He lectured at Nehemiah Gateway University and Fan S. Noli University in Albania between 2015 and 2023. He has been a board member for the Theopolis Institute (theopolisinstitute.com) and the Classic Learning Test (cltexam.com). He was a founding board member, dean, and president at New Saint Andrews College (Idaho) from 1993-2014. He was a professor at the University of Idaho between 1984 and 2000 (tenured in 1987), and served as the director of its School of Communication from 1995-2000. He was selected as a Senior Fulbright Scholar twice, first at Warsaw University (Poland, 1991) and then at NorthWest University (formerly Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education, South Africa, 1998). He was an International Development and Training Professor at Egerton University (Kenya, 1992). He also taught at Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA (1981-1984). He has lectured on Christian education, communication, and mass media issues in China, Korea, Kosovo, Mauritius, The Netherlands, and the UK.

He holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from the University of Iowa, an M.A. in Religion from Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, PA, and a B.A. in Philosophy from Dordt University, Sioux Center, Iowa. 

He and wife Beverlee have been married for 50 years, have two adult children, a dozen grandchildren (10 boys, 2 girls), and a grand daughter-in-law.
